Eleven mathematics students received their diplomas at the commencement ceremonies on Saturday 13 May 2023. The seven B.S. recipients are: Olivia Y. Dugas, Bryan Randy Flores, Zachary Reese Hatfield, Michael Andrew Kelleher, Allyssa Michelle Prejean, Logan M. Richard, and Bobby B. Robinson. The one M.S. recipient is Ashani Nisansala Wickramarathna Vidanalage. The three Ph. D. recipients are: Saptarshi Chakraberty, Faysal Ahmed Chowdhury, and Leah Elizabeth LeJeune.
Our alumnus, Vinodh Kumar Chellamuthu (PhD 2015), received the Henry L. Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Beginning College or University Mathematics Faculty at the August 2022 MAA Mathfest meeting in Philadelphia. The citation begins with "What Dr. Vinodh Chellamuthu has accomplished in the six years since he earned his PhD at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is astounding.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to an unprecedented worldwide response to grapple with the fast spreading virus. Professors Cameron Browne and Hayriye Gulbudak and graduate student Joshua Caleb Macdonald have obtained some novel results modeling connections between disease proliferation and interventions to slow the spread of the disease.
The late Dr. Henry Heatherly was passionate about mathematics and education; he gave his all when teaching students in University of Louisiana at Lafayette mathematics classes while also giving outside the classroom.
He and his wife, May, established a bequest in their wills to provide support to future UL Lafayette students across campus. Their bequest includes named endowments for the benefit of Department of Mathematics, Edith Garland Dupré Library, and graduate student recruitment.
