The Freshman Placement Exam is for UL Lafayette students who have never taken a collegiate mathematics course and who do not satisfy the prerequisites necessary for math 102, math 103/104, math 105, or math 117. If you have an ACT mathematics score of 21 or higher, then you do not need to take this exam. If you have taken a mathematics course at a college or university or through dual enrollment, please contact the math department to determine if you are eligible to take the exam. This exam can only be taken once per calendar year. This one hour exam covers intermediate algebra.
The Math Department has limited space to administer the Freshman Placement Exam and gives seating priority to students who are attending Orientation on the day of the exam. All other seats are first come, first served based on our online registration. If you do not take the placement exam during your orientation, the Math Dept. cannot guarantee you a spot during subsequent placement exams. Students who register for the placement exam and do not show up without contacting the Math Dept. must contact Counseling and Testing at (337) 482-6480 to reschedule and take the Freshman Placement Exam. Students taking the placement exam at Counseling and Testing will be charged $25 by the Couseling and Testing Office.
The Freshman Placement Exam is not for students seeking admission to UL Lafayette. Please contact the Office of Admissions for questions regarding your admission status.
The Advance Credit Exam can be used for certain placement purposes or to earn course credit for math 109 and/or math 110. You must have a minimum ACT mathematics score of 26 to take the Advance Credit Exam. This one and one-half hour exam covers pre-calculus algebra and trigonometry.
International students are now required to take the ACT Math Residual Exam for placement into the appropriate mathematics course. Depending on the score of this exam, international students will have the opportunity to take other placement and credit exams through the Math Dept.
Remember to visit our placement and credit page for detailed information on course placement.
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early so that we can begin the exam on time.
