Our group of 8 undergraduates, 1 high schooler, and 4 faculty had a great time at the Louisiana/Mississippi Section of the Mathematical Association of America 2025 meeting at Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss on 20-22 February 2025.

In addition to meeting people, networking, and hearing talks, several of our students participated in the various student activities at the meeting. Our student team, Michael Erny, Allison Zanyk, Scott Whitman, and Jillian Michel, placed second in the Student Competition. Our Integration Bee participants, Scott Whitman, and Jillian Michel, performed well,too. Our undergraduate student, Scott Whitman, presented a paper titled Using numerical optimization to create tiling schemes for attaining k-coverage in wireless sensor networks.

Each year, the Louisiana/Mississippi Section selects one person to receive the Distinguished Teaching Award. The 2025 Distinguished Teaching Award was presented to Jimmy Kimball by Christy Sue Langley, who received the 2024 Distinguished Teaching Award. That's two Distinguished Teaching Award in a row!
