The Mathematics Department at UL Lafayette has approximately 40 dedicated and enthusiastic full time faculty members. Currently we have 33 graduate students and 43 undergraduate majors. During the 2013-2014 academic year, 13 of our students graduated with a bachelor's, 5 graduated with a master's, and 5 graduated with a Ph.D. We would love for you to join our ranks in the near future.
We are committed to excellence in teaching and advancement of knowledge through research. The moderate size of our department permits an wide range of opportunities for students, as well as a high degree of personal attention. Our students enjoy the friendly, collegial atmosphere of a mid-sized department with all the resources of a comprehensive, rapidly developing research university.
Our faculty research interests cover a broad spectrum of mathematics and statistics. Many of our faculty have obtained international recognition for their research. Some of our faculty concentrate on fundamental research into the theory of mathematics and statistics, while others are involved in research targeted at specific applications. We have a large group working in areas of applied mathematics, such as modeling of biological and physical processes and mathematical computation.
Several of our faculty are active in training the next generation of teachers and helping current teachers advance their knowledge and abilities. In addition to specialized courses targeted at current and future teachers, several of our faculty are participants in major joint projects with faculty from the UL Lafayette College of Education.
