Scott Sorrell graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Mathematics with a minor in Physics from Fayetteville State University in North Carolina. He finished his Master's Degree in Math at LSU in 1997, and spent one year working on a PhD in Optimal Control Theory. Having earned 58 graduate hours in Mathematics, topics of study included Functional Analysis, Fourier Analysis, PDE's, The Cauchy Problem, Dynamic Optimization, Differential Geometry, Geometric Control Theory, Dynamic Optimization, and Optimal Control Theory.
As a teacher, Mr. Sorrell has taught 7 years as an instructor at LSU in Baton Rouge, one year as a math instructor and math coordinator for Lane College in Jackson, TN, where he was also the assistant head baseball coach. For the past 10 years, he has taught in the UL Lafayette Mathematics Department, where he is very involved in his teaching duties, as well as other departmental and college duties, including the Region VI Science and Engineering Fair. He created and maintains the Science Fair website. His door is always open.
