Professor Birkenmeier is working with a team of researchers in Turkey

Emeritus Professor Gary F. Birkenmeier is working with a six person (including Dr. Birkenmeier) research team in Turkey sponsored by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (Tubitak). The team consists of: Dr. Gary F. Birkenmeier, Dr. Nayil Kilic, Dr. Figen Takil Mutulu, Ms. Edanur Tastan, Dr. Adnan Tercan, and Dr. Ramazan Yasar. The three-year grant was obtained by Dr. Figen Takil Mutulu to study Nearrings which satisfy Baer annihilator conditions and/or extending conditions.

Caleb Macdonald earns praise for presentation

Mathematics graduate student Joshua Caleb Macdonald received special recognition for his contributed presentation, Modeling COVID-19 outbreaks in United States with distinct testing, lockdown speed and fatigue rates, to the Mathematical Epidemiology section of the 2021 Society for Mathematical Biology Annual Meeting. The meeting, organized by the University of California, Riverside, was held virtually on June 13 - 17, 2021.

Undergraduate research activities

Many of our undergraduate mathematics majors are conducting academic research. A few recent examples are described below.

During Fall 2020 our undergraduate mathematics major Maxwell Lovig completed a research project Tick population modeling under the direction of Ross Chiquet and Amy Veprauskas.

During Fall 2020 our undergraduate mathematics majors Maddie Angerdina and Ian Bonin completed a research project Dynamics of a smallmouth bass populations with harvesting under the direction of Ross Chiquet and Amy Veprauskas.
